When I watch movies, it’s not only important whether or not the plot entices me, but also, the acting should be impressive as well as the costumes, the score should be appropriate, the cinematography should be smooth, and the middle should not be too long (I hate middles). In creative writing workshops, we are trained to pick stories apart, first by stripping them down so only the quintessence of the story is exposed, and then criticize down to even the minutest detail. As an English major trekking my way through Shakespeare and all the classics of literature, I’ve developed an analytic nature, which is perhaps not good for those who sit next to me in the theatre. My biggest drive is for action movies and movies with excellent character development. I love being introduced to the dark, cynical character and peeling back the layers to see why he is the way he is. My favorite movies to go see are movies that are adaptations of books, and my favorite actor is Viggo Mortensen, although Gerard Butler comes in a close second, so you might notice that they star in a few of the movies I review.
